During 2024, Eltham Little Theatre are generously offering U3A members half price tickets for their Thursday evening and Sunday matinee shows. The dates for which this is applicable for The lion, the witch and the wardrobe are Thursday, 28th November and Sundays, 17th and 24th November.
Set in the 1940’s during WWII, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, are evacuated to a professors’ home in the countryside. Stumbling across a wardrobe in a spare room, the four siblings find their way through the wardrobe to the land of Narnia. They encounter many talking animals and mythical creatures, including Mr. Tumnus, the beavers, the lion Aslan and the White Witch.
Adapted from the book by C.S. Lewis, the play explores the themes of family, temptation, betrayal, forgiveness, courage and good versus evil.
This is a dinner table seating event. Take your own food and beverages.
Here are the mechanics: you book your tickets online. Choose the date, then the table, then the number of ‘U3A member’ tickets, then enter the ‘502024’ discount code in the ‘gift certificate / promotion code’ box, then pay.
10 topics, 110 questions – all in 90 minutes. Get ready to untangle some more English ‘double meaning’ words, a few riddles for lateral thinking and heaps of the usual favourite questions on geography, history, science & nature and music (don’t worry – no hip hop or punk, etc). Fun is the overriding purpose, with a little smug learning potential as a bit of a bonus for you.
Your host: David O’Brien.

Here are the mechanics: you book your tickets online. Choose the date, then either individual tickets or a table of 6, then the number of ‘U3A member’ tickets, then enter the ‘502024’ discount code in the ‘gift certificate / promotion code’ box, then pay.
Seating is in tables of 8 so you should try and form a group of 8 if you wish to be seated with specific other people. You can also book individually and we will allocate you to tables. When booking, please list the names of the people you are booking for any dietary requirements.
Refunds will be available until 13th November but not thereafter due to catering commitments (but you can still sell your ticket to a fellow U3A member).
There will be nibbles, a sit down classic spit roast, dessert and tea/coffee. Ruby Tuesdays will provide the entertainment and there will be time for acknowledgements to tutors and a raffle to raise funds for CAVE, our U3A charity this year. Drinks will be available for purchase at the bar, at reasonable bar prices. There is no BYO provision at this venue.
There will be live music, a makers market, activities, food and a film screening.
Nillumbik U3A is exploring the possibility of creating a semi-regular printed publication that highlights the creative work, activities and concerns of U3A members. The publication would aim at the education and stimulation of U3A members.
The contents of such a publication could include: interviews with local creative writers, photographers, artists, playwrights, poets, song writers and non-fiction writers; book reviews; creative writing; extracts from memoirs; non-fiction articles of interest and concern to retirees; photographs; quizzes and explorations of words and their origins; and quirky items of interest.
The project will require: an editorial group to decide on content; people with editorial and proofreading skills; people with skills in design and layout; photographers and interviewers; people to liaise with Nillumbik Council and others (e.g. to organise funding and to arrange for local sale of the magazine); people with publishing experience (e.g. to negotiate with printers); and mainly, people who have an interest in such a venture.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the possible creation of such a publication. If you would like to attend the meeting, or have any questions, email Barry Carozzi (Ukebaz@gmail.com).
