The Sum of Us (play) @ Eltham Little Theatre
Feb 20 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Eltham Little Theatre has generously offered Nillumbik U3A half price tickets for their Thursday night performances of the Sum of Us on 20th and 27th February. There is no need to book, just turn up on the night, say that you are from Nillumbik U3A, and pay for the half price tickets. Perhaps some of you might like to gather together a group from your class?

Here is some blurb about the play: “Set in Footscray in the late 80s, this heart-warming and humorous play explores the relationship between an ageing widower and his gay son. After meeting in a local pub, Jeff and a young gardener, Greg, hit it off and begin to date. When he meets Jeff’s remarkably accepting Dad, Greg begins to back off. Meanwhile, Dad also has a new flame: a woman he met through a dating service. Put off by Jeff’s homosexuality, prosaic Joyce too pulls away, just before Dad suffers a stroke.

Thanks for arranging this Lynne Stevens-Chappel!

You and your medicines @ Eltham Living & Learning Centre
Mar 16 @ 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm

We are a pill popping society, with many people believing in the concept of a ‘pill for all ills.’ In 2017/18, around 320 million prescriptions were dispensed in Australian community pharmacies. This averages out to around 13 prescriptions per person per year. While medicines can be life saving, life prolonging and improve our quality of life, they are powerful substances and may manifest unwanted effects in some people. Some 250,000 Australians are hospitalised each year due to serious drug-related events. Adverse reactions can occur within minutes, days, weeks, months or even years after commencing a medicine. In this session, Louis Roller will discuss what we need to ask our doctor and pharmacist about the medicine that has been prescribed for us.

Presenter: Louis Roller. Louis is aLouis Roller is highly qualified to speak on this topic. He has been an academic of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Monash University for 56 years, held various board positions, written extensively on pharmaceutical matters, lectures to a wide range of medical medical practitioners and continues to lecture to pharmacy undergraduates.
