As an interesting change to the usual local bike track routes round Eltham, John Arneaud planned a City Loop ride right round Melbourne, all on bike tracks, past nearly all the city landmarks. It was a leisurely ride as there were no hills and there was so much to see.

After coffee at the Botanical Gardens, the group took the bikes on the train to Clifton Hill and did a round trip via the Inner Circle bike track to Royal Park, along to Mooney Ponds over the Yarra to Costco, through Docklands and Southbank, returning past the MCG and catching the train back to Eltham from Jolimont station.

It was amazing to see how the City has developed the bike tracks with more under construction such as a spectacular new green bridge across the Yarra. The group saw parts of Melbourne that you would never know existed, Everyone enjoyed the trip.

Our Bike Riding group rode to Wattle Glen Cafe for their end of year lunch. After lots of laughs and discussions, John Arneaud was thanked for his hard work in choosing and organising the various rides throughout the year, as was his right hand man, John Earle. The ride home was a bit harder as they had all had a full lunch and they envied the people who drove instead!

On Thursdays, our bike riders head off from Eltham Library taking to the main Yarra Trail either north or south. On 16th March, 12 riders in 2 groups headed to Beasley’s Nursery, where they stopped for a cuppa before heading back. This photo is of the first group stopping near Petty’s Orchard where the Mullum Mullum Creek meets the Yarra River.
