Nillumbik U3A member Rachel Brak will talk about her holiday in Mongolia. Here is her introductory description of the talk.

I (Rachel) had so many questions. Would I find my way back from the toilet block in the middle of the night? What would a diet of dairy and meat do for me? Would I pull a face when drinking the politely offered fermented mare’s milk. My friends just asked ‘Why Mongolia?’

Mongolia has more horses than people, with around a quarter of the people being nomads. It is one of the sunniest countries in the world but with one of the shortest summers. Known as ‘the land of the blue sky’, its capital has registered the coldest winter on earth. It has the sixth largest desert in the world (with very little sand), where the first fossilised dinosaur eggs were found. And it had a founding father who established the second largest empire in the world.

And it is the most interesting holiday that I have ever been on.
