The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke (play) @ Eltham Little Theatre
Mar 7 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

During 2021, Eltham Little Theatre are generously offering U3A members half price tickets for some of their Thursday evening and Sunday matinee shows. The first three dates for which this applicable at The Songs of a Sentimental Bloke by C.J. Dennis on: Sunday, 28th February, starting 2pm; Sunday, 7th March, starting 2pm; and Thursday, 11th March, starting 8pm.

Here's the blurb about the show: you will see a full staged version of all 14 of Dennis' songs (long poems) from a century ago. It's the charming story of Bill, a young ne’er do well who decides to turn his life around. He sees and falls for the lovely Doreen and you follow their friendship through its ups and downs as they court, wed, become farmers and finally have a child. Every song is included in full and the show will be performed in the round, with audience on all sides.

Here are the mechanics: you book your tickets online. Choose the date, then the number of tickets, then enter the 'U3A50' discount code in the 'gift certificate / promotion code' box, then pay. These seats are in the round with no seat allocation as it is general admission, however people can sit together if coming in a group. Covid-19 regulations at time of performances will be adhered to.

Thanks to Lynne Stevens-Chappel and Alison Jones for making this happen.

Eltham pioneers and families @ Eltham Guide Hall
Mar 17 @ 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

This presentation will be given by Jim Connor of the Eltham Historical Society. One dictionary definition of a pioneer is a colonist, explorer or settler of a new land or region, an innovator or developer of something new. Many people in many ways contributed to the establishment of the area we know as Eltham and their pioneering activities helped develop the town and the region. This presentation will look at some of the notable Eltham ‘pioneers’, both during the early days and in later times.

This will be our first ‘live’ presentation since the start of the Covid-19 lockdowns. Note that it has a different start time (1pm) than our previous Zoom presentations.

Book your place by emailing to the Office (office@nillumbiku3a.org.au).

Defibrillator and CPR training @ Eltham Guide Hall
Mar 24 @ 9:30 am – 11:30 am

We have recently acquired some defibrillators and three of these machines will be installed at the Eltham Central Pavilion, the Eltham Guide Hall and Diamond Creek Senior Citizens. These machines can save lives but only if, when the emergency arises, people know how to use them. They are not difficult to use but you need to know how. We have therefore organised some training sessions for our membership.

Health provider Bolton Clarke representative Raquel will be giving a talk and demo on how to use the defibrillator and other CPR matters.

Book your place by emailing our course coordinator (coordinator@nillumbiku3a.org.au).

People, personalities and preferences @ Eltham Guide Hall
Mar 31 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Why do some of your family, friends and members of the local club you belong to, think, act and participate quite differently to you? As individuals, we are all different and are either born with, or develop, certain preferred ways of thinking and acting. None are right or wrong, just different. When communicating with people, it is helpful to understand which words and responses work better than others.

This presentation will be given by U3A members Kelvin and Beverly Spiller. It will assist you in gaining a better understanding of your own and others’ personal preferences for how information is taken in and decisions are made, and will provide you with a different way of thinking about how others interact with you, you with them and they with one another.

Book your place by emailing to the Office (office@nillumbiku3a.org.au).
