On 22nd May, Andrew Lemon discussed the issue of where can our ageing residents go if the time comes to leave their family home but they still want to live in Nillumbik. An informal group called Downsizing in Nillumbik has started exploring solutions to what is self-evidently a shortage of housing for the aged in this Shire, asking how to alleviate this without spoiling the area that we all love. He analysed how Nillumbik’s housing mix has developed and what the future might bring. Housing is a big political and social issue in Australia today but, being Nillumbik, the problems present themselves here in a unique way.
