Nillumbik University of the Third Age (U3A) welcomes retirees and semi-retirees to join our friendly community. We offer opportunities for members to engage in great learning, sporting, artistic and social activities without a need for formal educational qualifications – all that’s required is a love of learning and a friendly outlook.

We send out regular newsletters (Gibber Gabbers) to around 1,800 people in total. You can read these newsletters on our newsletter page.

We currently run around 90 different courses each term. These cover a wide range of subjects including languages, physical activities, cards & puzzles, and classes related to music, art, literature, history and science.

Membership

Membership is open to all retired and semi-retired people and we have no age limits. We have around 900 members.

Our annual fee is just $55 a year and participation in classes is then free.

This presentation by Naomi Brasier (Osteopath) from Back in Motion Eltham will focus on falls’ risks, prevention, their management and how to keep ourselves safe. Naomi will share practical strategies and exercises to enhance your stability and prevent falls. Discover simple, effective movements that can be easily incorporated into your daily routine to boost balance, reduce fall risk, and improve your quality of life.

Falls are Australia’s leading cause of injury hospitalisation and death. Falls requiring hospitalisation occur more frequently in adults with increasing age, and are most likely to occur in the home.

Baltic cruise crime (Fiona Malcolm) @ Eltham Central Pavilion

In 2019, Fiona Malcolm headed off on a cruise to the Baltic states. Her planning did not involve Lonely Planet or Eyewitness guidebooks but rather crime novels set in all of the ports that she was planning to visit. Go along and discover what she read and how she did it.

Fiona is the Library Manager at the Melbourne Athenaeum Library.
