The Socrates Tri-Warriors class has been having fun and games learning new music for performance as an ensemble group. Gordon Gunn has reported in on how it is going.]
The current members of the class are Bill (guitar/voice), Ian (clarinet), Joyce (piano, tenor sax, clarinet and flute) and Eve (piano). As well as learning new music to perform, they are practicing improvisation techniques and learning to read music. The group is now able to play such difficult music pieces such as Autumn Leaves, Rio de Janeiro Blues, performing the music of Charlie Parker, Lester Young and Roberta Flack. They are learning all about improvisation composing and developing neural pathways in linear, vertical and divergent creative thinking, whilst skilling in composition techniques, inventing and performing good music.
The group want to invite more players into the ensemble to share the fun. So, go along on a Wednesday and see what it is all about. Take your instrument / voice and perhaps any music you have been wanting to learn for years. Collaboratively you and they will work on it together as a team. Also, take your smile, your enthusiasm, your knowledge and your wisdom.
