[On 25th April, Joy Barham once again represented Nillumbik U3A at the Dawn Service in Eltham. Here is Joy’s report.]

The service was, as usual, very well attended. The weather was unusually mild and the rain held off until much later. The president of the Montmorency RSL, Ash Graham, gave the Anzac address which was both reflective and relevant to the world today. Eltham High School choir sang Amazing Grace and Eltham College choir sang Honour the Dead. Eltham East Primary school students read the names of the local fallen soldiers. The crowd was led in the Lords Prayer by the Revd. Yvette Daniel from Saint Margaret’s Anglican Church. After wreaths were laid by local organisations, the Last Post sounded, followed by a minutes silence, then Reveille marked the end of the service. As people became aware of the breaking dawn, so did they of the depth of the last phrase spoken … Lest We Forget.”
